Installing Upper Control Arm
- Installation is performed in reverse order. Pay particular attention to the following:
- 1.1 Replace screw and nut securing upper control arm to rear axle housing.
- 1.2 Replace screw and nut securing upper control arm to wheel bearing housing.
- 1.3 Fit screws for upper control arm.WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly
- Risk of crushing
- Risk of damage to components
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).
Information
Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.
- 1.4 Before tightening the upper control arm screws: Lift the wheel suspension to zero position using lifting equipment (e.g. >
VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack
).
Zero position (shown on rear axle as an example)
- 1.5 Tighten screw securing upper control arm to rear axle housing.
> Initial tightening 70 Nm
> Final tightening + 180°
- 1.6 Align eccentric adjuster according to the markings made during removal.
- 1.7 Tighten screw and nut securing upper control arm to wheel bearing housing, but do not turn the eccentric adjuster.
> Tightening torque 95 Nm
