Removing Front Seat

WARNING: Incorrect handling of airbag units 
  • Triggering of airbag unit. 
  • System faults can occur. 
    1. → Switch off ignition and remove ignition key or remote control (hand-held transmitter).
    2. → A voltage supply (e.g. battery charger) must not be connected to the external power supply/jump-lead starting terminals.
    3. → Disconnect the battery and insulate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier is avoided.
    4. → Wait 1 minute after disconnecting the battery.
    5. → Only pull off connector on the triggering unit after the waiting time has elapsed.
    6. → Make sure that no foreign objects are located in front of the airbag unit during installation.
    7. → Replace damaged parts during removal.
    8. → Always position airbag units so that the blow-out opening is facing upwards, e.g. crest on driver's airbag.
    9. → Do not position anything on the airbag units.
    10. → If removed for an extended period, the airbag units must be stored in a safe place.
    11. → Airbag units must not come into contact with grease, oil, detergents, liquids, or similar substances.
    12. → Do not expose airbag units to temperatures of more than 90°C.
    13. → Do not remove the short-circuit spring on the plug-in contacts.
    14. → Ignition and preparations may only be carried out by skilled staff, supervised by a second responsible person.
    15. → Before disposal, the airbag unit must be rendered harmless by electrical ignition performed in accordance with all precautionary measures, thereby preventing it from being used incorrectly.

In the case of faulty fore-and-aft or vertical adjustment, the seat can only be removed together with the seat frame.

  1. Move the backrest all the way forward. Move the front seat all the way up and all the way forward.
  2. Release caps -1-  by pulling them upwards and pull them off the rear seat rails.

  3. Unscrew fastening screws on the rear seat rails -2-  . Fit new screws.

  4. Remove seat belt mount.
    1. 4.1  Disengage cap -1-  and slide it over the seat belt mount -2-  .

    2. 4.2  Release retaining clip -3-  on the seat belt mount using a suitable screwdriver -arrow A-  .

    3. 4.3  Push seat belt mount over the retaining pin -arrow B-  until the lug under the retaining pin loosens the clip.
    4. 4.4  Remove seat belt mount from the retaining pin.
  5. Move the front seat back fully and lower the rear seat surface.
  6. Remove remote control (hand-held transmitter). Disconnect the battery. Route or isolate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier (e.g. body, seat frame) is avoided.
  7. Release caps -3-  and remove them from the front seat rails.

  8. Unscrew and remove fastening screws on the front seat rail -4-  . Fit new screws.

  9. Tilt the front seat back.
  10. Release and disconnect electric plug connections for the front seat -1- 3-  .

    The number of electric plug connections can vary, depending on equipment.
