Replacing Era GLONASS Emergency Call System Battery

NOTIFICATION 

Voltage drop 

• Irreparable damage to control unit 
• Damage to control unit 
• Fault entries in the control unit 
• Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
• Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming 
  1. → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.
  2. → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.
  3. → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

INFORMATION 

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester. 

1. Unscrew screws -1-  from control unit cover and remove cover.

2. Disconnect battery and replace it with a new battery. Make sure that the electric plug connection on the new battery is locked correctly.
3. Tighten screws securing cover to control unit to > Tightening - torque 1.2 Nm (0.7 ftlb.)  .
4. Install ERA GLONASS emergency call system.

5. Connect the Tester to the service disconnector using > 9818/ET 500 - Y-connector, Russia  and start it. Switch on ignition.
6. IMPORTANT: Connect the red cable -1-  to the emergency call system socket.

7. Connect the black cable -2-  to the service disconnector socket on the vehicle.

8. Select the vehicle type if necessary.
9. Select Emergency call system  in the overview. Press F12 to continue.
10. Select Maintenance/repairs  . Press F12 to continue.
11. Select Replace battery  . Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
12. Follow the instructions on the Tester.
13. A message appears reporting that the battery was replaced successfully.
14. Exit the diagnostic application. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
15. Leave the ignition switched on until the SOS button (centre console) changes from flashing green to permanent green.
16. This can take up to 2 minutes.
17. IMPORTANT: Only now is the emergency call system active.
