Preliminary Work

Information

The calibration process sends out radar beams, which the doppler generator reflects. This simulates a vehicle.

A certain number of radar beams are expected in a defined time due to the defined position of the Doppler generator.

Deviations indicate that the control units are not at the correct installation position.

These deviations are displayed on the Porsche System Tester.

Information

The following tools are required for calibration:

  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and set up the > VAS 6350A - calibration unit  behind the vehicle in accordance with the operating instructions for VAS 6350.

Setup overview (shown as an example)

MP 1 to 4  Measuring points

X1  Distance from calibration board to right reflector

X2  Distance from calibration board to left reflector

    Height of camera from floor

    Calibration board height

  2. Fit the wheel centre mountings and reflectors on the vehicle in accordance with the operating instructions for > VAS 6350A -calibration unit  . The reflectors must be hanging freely.

  3. Align the work surface with the centre of the vehicle and adjust the linear laser to suit the calibration board in accordance with the operating instructions for > VAS 6350A - calibration unit  .

    Information

The following conditions must be observed in order to perform calibration:

    • Calibration must only be performed on level ground.
    • The vehicle must be empty.
    • Wheels must be positioned straight ahead.
    • Vehicle doors must be closed.
    • Tyres must have the specified air pressure.
    • On vehicles with air suspension, the chassis height must be set to Normal  or Medium  and suspension levelling (air suspension) must be completed.
    • The retractable trailer hitch must be retracted.
    • The engine must not be running during calibration.
    • Make sure there is enough space behind the vehicle; no metal objects for the Doppler generator.
    • Make sure that no objects are moved or no-one moves behind the vehicle during calibration.
    • There must be no heavy soiling in the sensor area on the front apron.
    • There must be no stickers in the sensor area on the rear apron.
    • The calibration plates, wheel centre mountings and the Doppler generators must be fitted, centred/aligned in accordance with the operating instructions.

    Workshop conditions

    • The system must only be calibrated in a suitable area of the workshop.
    • This area of the workshop must be sheltered from all environmental influences, such as rain, snow and swirling dust.
    • The workshop must be at room temperature.
  4. Align calibration board using linear laser.

    1. 4.1  Position the distance measuring unit at the right stop bracket of the calibration board and measure the distance -X1-  to the right reflector. The distance must be approx. 1, 700 mm.
    2. 4.2  Position the distance measuring unit at the left stop bracket of the calibration board and measure the distance -X2-  to the left reflector. The distance must be approx. 1, 700 mm.
    3. 4.3  The difference between distance -X1-  and distance -X2-  can be max. 1 mm.
