Removing Cover
WARNING:
Vehicle can fall down
- Risk of squashing or crushing
- Risk of damage to the vehicle
→ Do not place any solid objects under the raised vehicle.
→ Ensure that the lifting platform is prevented from lowering.
→ Remove solid objects before lowering the vehicle.
→ Raise the vehicle only at the jacking points provided.
→ The outer jacking points should be used primarily.
Information
The following points must always be observed when drilling holes on the transmission housing:
- The transmission housing must not be damaged while drilling.
- Only a small amount of pressure must be exerted on the cover while drilling to prevent damage to internal parts.
- Drilling chips in the transmission must be removed thoroughly.
- An electric screwdriver or angle drill is ideal for drilling holes.
- Lower the transmission as far as possible using >VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack .
- Loosen cable duct -1-
for wire harness for starter.
- 2.1 Unscrew and remove screws -2 and 3- .
- 2.2 Unclip clip on cable duct -arrow- from the transmission housing and move cable duct -1- aside as far as required until the cover is accessible.

- Remove cover -1-

- 3.1 Spot-drill holes in the cover -1- at two directly opposite positions -Arrows- using a greased drill bit (dia. 2 - 2.5 mm ).
- 3.2 Carefully remove drilling chips.
- 3.3 Screw two tapping screws into the bore holes.
- 3.4 Use >VAS 6965 - Puller set alternately on both screws to pull off the cover -1- without tilting it.
- 3.5 Carefully remove chips from inside the transmission.
Cap
- Clean sealing surfaces.
