Preparing The Vehicle (Vehicles With Central Wheel Lock)

Information 

Wheel-alignment adapters -1-  must not be used with spacer rings -2-  on the 992.

Wheel-alignment adapter set for wheels with central lock

1  Four wheel-alignment adapters for wheels with central lock
2  Four spacer rings (only required on the surface of the wheel bolt on the 997 Turbo and 997 Carrera GTS together with -1-  )
3  Four screws (toggles)
4  Four fastening screws (M8 x 55) for central adapter when used with spacer ring -2-  (tightening torque: max. 15 Nm (11 ftlb.))
5  Four fastening screws (M8 x 40) for central adapter when used without spacer ring -2-  (tightening torque: max. 15 Nm (11 ftlb.))
  1. Drive the vehicle onto the wheel-alignment stand without tension. Ensure that axle components are not under tension by moving the vehicle forward and backward several times if necessary.

    Information 

    • Release tool for removing the hub cap is available in the Parts Information. 
    • Alternatively, the release tool in luggage compartment can be used. 
  2. Carefully lever off the hub cap on all four wheels using the special tool.

    Removing crested hub cap

    1. 2.1 Insert the metal tab into the opening groove -1-  on the central bolt and swivel back the handle.

    Information 

    All contact surfaces (on the wheel-alignment adapters and wheels) must be clean and flat. Even small particles of dirt can result in incorrect measurements.

  3. > VAS 6830 - Adapter for centre lock wheels-1-  must be fitted on all four wheels (on the M8 thread in the middle of the lockable wheel bolt).

    Wheel-alignment adapter on wheel

    1. 3.1 Position wheel-alignment adapter -1-  , fit short fastening screw (M8 x 40) and tighten hand-tight (tightening torque: max. 15 Nm (11 ftlb.)). Hold the central adapter -1-  securely (to prevent it from turning) so as not to damage the paintwork on the wheel.
  4. Fit measured-value pickups -4-  or measuring reflectors, with spoiler adapters (50/100 mm long) -3-  if necessary, on the wheel-alignment adapters -1-  .

    1. 4.1 Secure measured-value pickups -4-  or measuring reflectors with a screw -2-  .
