Installing Tie-Rod Ball

Information 

Clean the thread of the tie-rod ball before screwing the tie-rod ball onto the tie rod.

To prevent any damage when screwing the tie-rod ball onto the tie rod, make sure in particular that the thread engages uniformly.

Screw on the tie-rod ball in accordance with the number of turns you wrote down during removal. Then turn it as far as the marking.

This is not  a substitute for a later suspension alignment, but merely avoids the need for an approximate adjustment of the steering trapeze.

1. Fit tie-rod ball -1-  on the tie rod.

   Mounting for tie-rod ball

   1. 1.1  Position tie-rod ball according to the marking.
   2. 1.2  Tighten nut -3-  on the tie rod. Counter the tie-rod ball at the flattened area -4-  using a suitable open-ended wrench. > Tightening torque 50 Nm (36.9 ftlb.) +/- 5 Nm (3.7 ftlb.) 
2. Fit tie-rod ball -1-  on the wheel bearing housing.

   Mounting for tie-rod ball

   1. 2.1  Tighten nut -2-  . > Tightening torque 85 Nm (62.7 ftlb.) 
   2. 2.2  Seal threaded joint securing tie rod to wheel bearing housing with wax as shown in -Illustration-  . Use Pfinder AP14/4 for this.
