Subsequent Work

Information 

• If the steering gear is replaced, the steering stops and steering column friction must be taught. 
• The steering lock settings are cleared after calibrating the steering-angle sensor and must be re-taught. 
• Steering lock settings and steering train friction are taught using the PIWIS Tester function "Commissioning". 

1. Install front axle cross member.

   400919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT AXLE CROSS MEMBER - information on "Installing"

2. Teach control unit for electric steering column lock.

   480855 REPLACING CONTROL UNIT FOR ELECTRIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK 

3. Teach control unit for steering column adjustment.

   483055 REPLACE CONTROL UNIT FOR STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT 

4. Perform PDCC "commissioning"  using the PIWIS Tester  .
   1. 4.1  Connect the PIWIS Tester  to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
   2. 4.2  Start the diagnostic software.
   3. 4.3  Select Power steering  control unit.
   4. 4.4  Select Maintenance/repairs  tab.
   5. 4.5  Press F12  to select "Commissioning"  .
   6. 4.6  Follow the instructions on the Tester.
