Replacing Steering Lock

NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Risk of irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Risk of damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Coding in the control unit is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming 
    • Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
    • Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.
    • Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A to the vehicle battery.

Information 

All remote controls (keys) are required for teaching a DME, front-end electronics (font BCM), rear-end electronics (rear BCM), electronic steering lock (ELV) control unit for example, or for teaching remote controls (keys).

Remote controls (keys) that are not taught during this procedure will no longer be cognised by the vehicle.

  1. Make sure that the ignition is switched off.
  2. Replace control unit for steering column adjustment.

  3. Perform immobiliser commissioning.
    1. 3.1  Connect the PIWIS Tester  to the vehicle and switch on the PIWIS Tester  .
    2. 3.2  Switch on the ignition.
    3. 3.3  Start diagnostics.
    4. 3.4  In the overview  , press F7  to switch to the Additional menu  .

      The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11  to continue.

    5. 3.5  Select the Immobiliser commissioning  tab.
    6. 3.6  Enter the PPN user name and password. Press F12  to continue.
    7. 3.7  The vehicle identification number (VIN) is displayed. Change it if necessary. Press F12  to continue.
    8. 3.8  Enter the repair order number. Press F12  to continue.
    9. 3.9  Follow the instructions on the Tester and carry out the process.
    10. 3.10  Check whether teach-in was successful. Once the teaching process is completed successfully, the following status is displayed:

      BCM front: taught

      BCM rear: taught

      ELV: taught

      DME: taught

      Number of keys taught

      Press F12  to continue.

  4. Read and follow the instructions on the Tester. Press F12  to continue.
  5. Read out the fault memory and erase it if necessary.
  6. Exit the diagnostic application.
  7. Switch off the ignition.
  8. Lock and unlock the vehicle and start the engine using all remote controls.
