Replacing Brake Fluid

WARNING: Danger of injury and damage from brake fluid! 
  • Poisonous if swallowed! 
  • Irritation and damage to skin 
  • Avoid contact with paint surfaces 

    → Store brake fluid in suitable, labelled containers only

    → Wear protective gloves and goggles

    → In the event of contact (eyes or skin), wash immediately with water

    → In the event of contact with paint surfaces, wash off immediately with water - do not wipe off

Information 

  1. > VAS 6860 - Brake filling and bleeding device  must be connected to adapter. > Brake bleeding device on brake fluid reservoir

    1. 1.1  Open the brake fluid reservoir.
    2. 1.2  Connect bleeding device to the expansion tank and switch it on.
    3. 1.3  Set the bleeding pressure to 2.0 bar (29 psi).

      Information 

      Use a transparent hose and a collecting bottle to check the escaping brake fluid for cleanliness, absence of air bubbles and to determine the amount of brake fluid used.

  2. Change the brake fluid at all four brake callipers one after the other (no prescribed sequence).
    1. 2.1  Drain brake fluid at the outer bleeder valve -2-  first, then at the inner bleeder valve -4-  on each brake calliper.

    2. 2.2  Leave the bleeder valve open until clear, bubble-free brake fluid emerges. Then, close the bleeder valve.
    3. 2.3  Remove breather hose.
    4. 2.4  Repeat the procedure on all bleeder valves on the brake callipers in the sequence rear right/rear left/front right/front left.
  3. Tighten bleeder valves.
    1. 3.1 Bleeder valves (not GT3 vehicles): 

      Front: > Tightening torque 14 Nm (10.3 ftlb.) +/- 2 Nm (1.5 ftlb.) 

      Rear: > Tightening torque 14 Nm (10.3 ftlb.) 

    2. 3.2 Brake calliper bleeder valves - GT3 vehicles  :

      Front: > Tightening torque 17 Nm (12.5 ftlb.) + 3 Nm (2.2 ftlb.) 

      Rear: > Tightening torque 12 Nm (8.9 ftlb.) + 4 Nm (3 ftlb.) 

      Information 

      The brake fluid level in the reservoir must be between the MIN and MAX markings after changing the brake fluid.

  4. Switch off > VAS 6860 - brake filling and bleeding equipment  and disconnect from the adapter.
    1. 4.1  Unscrew adapter on brake fluid reservoir.
    2. 4.2  Check brake fluid level and correct it if necessary. The brake fluid level must be between the MIN and MAX markings.

      > 470801 CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL 

    3. 4.3  Close the cap on the brake fluid reservoir.
