Removing Brake Master Cylinder
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
Information
- During assembly work at hydraulic connections, all electric plug connections in the connection point area must always be connected. This prevents the inside of the plug connections from being splashed with brake fluid or water.
- Clean any plug connections that have become dirty or damp during removal and assembly work using a lint-free cloth.
- Brake fluid on electrical contacts (even thinned brake fluid) causes corrosion and may result in faults in the system.
- Remove any escaping brake fluid immediately; rinse with water and dry thoroughly if necessary.
- Place suitable material underneath to collect emerging brake fluid, e.g. clean, absorbent cloths.
- Drain the brake fluid reservoir.
- 2.1 Unscrew cap on the brake fluid reservoir and remove strainer.
- 2.2 Extract brake fluid (e.g. using > VAS 6860 - Brake Filling and Bleeding Equipment) .
- 2.3 Fit strainer and tighten cap on the brake fluid reservoir.
- Remove brake lines -1-
from the brake master cylinder -2-
.
Brake lines on brake master cylinder
- 3.1 Unscrew cap screws -3- and loosen brake lines from the bracket -4- .
- 3.2 Close off brake lines and connection openings on the brake master cylinder using stoppers.
- On vehicles with manual transmission: Disconnect lines (to the clutch master cylinder and return line from the clutch slave cylinder) at the brake fluid reservoir.
- Release and disconnect plug connection (for brake fluid level indicator).
- Remove brake master cylinder -1-
from the brake booster -2-
