Removing Drive Shaft
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Release parking brake.
- Shift transmission to neutral gear.
- Remove nut -1-
securing drive shaft to wheel hub. Another person is needed in order to press the brake.
- 3.1 For vehicles without central wheel bolt:
Unscrew nut -1-

- 3.2 For vehicles with central wheel bolt:
- 3.2.1 Remove nut -1- using > 9471 - socket wrench .

Replace nut.
Information
Make sure that the drive shaft does not hang down as this may damage the joint.
- 3.1 For vehicles without central wheel bolt:
Unscrew nut -1-

- Loosen the drive shaft -1-
at the transmission flange.

- 4.1 Unscrew screws -2- and remove plates (turn the drive shaft in order to access the screws).
- 4.2 Replace screws and plates.
- 4.3 Secure the drive shaft to prevent it from falling down.
- Carefully press drive shaft pins out of the wheel hub.
- 5.1 For vehicles without central wheel bolt:
Press the drive shaft in using > VAS 6926 - puller set-1-
.

- 5.2 For vehicles with central wheel bolt:
Central bolts. Press sing out drive shaft (shown as an example)

into the wheel hub (up to the anchor block on the wheel hub).
Spindle -2- must not yet touch the drive shaft. Turn spindle -2- as required.
- 5.2.2 Turn spindle -2- to the right. Counter at the surface -3- with an open-ended wrench (a/f 36 mm) at the same time. Continue to turn spindle -2- until the drive shaft is pressed out of the wheel hub.

Remove drive shaft in a downward direction -Arrow A-

Removing drive shaft
- 5.1 For vehicles without central wheel bolt:
Press the drive shaft in using > VAS 6926 - puller set-1-
.
- Remove > VAS 6926 - puller set /> 9794 - assembly aid from the wheel hub.
- Check inner and outer drive shaft bellows for damage.
- 7.1 If the inner joint is damaged, the bellows and CV joint can be replaced.
- 7.2 If the outer joint is damaged, the drive shaft must be replaced.
