Adjusting And Calibrating Parking-Brake Shoes

After checking the brakes, it may be necessary to fine-tune the adjustment device.

Information 

In the event of unfavorable tolerances, the brake pads may prevent the brake disc from turning freely! In this case, carefully and evenly press the brake pads back slightly.

  1. Release the parking brake so that the wheels and brake discs can turn freely.
  2. Adjust the parking brake using PIWIS Tester  .
    1. 2.1 Select 'Control unit overview'  => 'Porsche Stability Management (PSM)'  and press F12 to confirm.
    2. 2.2 Select 'Maintenance/repairs'  => 'Adjust parking brake'  and start the procedure.
  3. Adjust the brake shoes on both rear wheels.
    1. 3.1 Turn the relevant brake disc -1-  with the through-bore -1/Arrow-  to the adjustment device position.

      Information 

      The subsequent torque of the rear wheel must be greater than 100 Nm (74 ftlb.).

    2. 3.2 Using a screwdriver, adjust the adjustment device until the rear wheel can no longer be turned.
    3. 3.3 Then, loosen by 14 (+/- 1) clicks of the adjustment device.

    Information 

    A calculated value in the positive range means: Turn adjusting screw in direction A - loosen.

    A calculated value in the negative range means: Turn adjusting screw in direction B - tighten.

  4. Re-adjust the adjustment device in accordance with the instructions on the PIWIS Tester  if necessary.

    > Adjustment value 0.15 mm  = 1 click on the adjustment device

  5. Install rear wheels.

  6. Grind down parking brake using PIWIS Tester  .
    1. 6.1 Select 'Control unit overview'  => 'Porsche Stability Management (PSM)'  and press F12 to confirm.
    2. 6.2 Select 'Maintenance/repairs'  => 'Grind down parking brake'  and start the procedure.
  7. Calibrate the parking brake using PIWIS Tester  .
    1. 7.1 Select 'Control unit overview'  => 'Porsche Stability Management (PSM)'  and press F12 to confirm.
    2. 7.2 Select 'Maintenance/repairs'  => 'Calibrate parking brake'  and start the procedure.
  8. Actuate the EPB actuator several times and check that the actuators open and close properly on both sides.
  9. Position brake pads by pressing the brake several times.
