Installing Crankshaft Sealing Ring (On Belt Side)

NOTE: Incorrect tool

Risk of damage to components
→ Use prescribed tool.

CAUTION: Damage to the sealing lip.

Leaks
→ The crankshaft flange and tools must be perfectly clean and free of grease.

→ The sealing ring must be fitted dry, i.e. no oil, grease or other lubricants can be used.

→ The crankcase bore must not be oiled.

→ The sealing ring can only be positioned on the assembly tool using the supporting sleeve.

→ The new crankshaft sealing ring (PTFE) is supplied on a supporting sleeve as a spare part.

→ Do not remove the sealing ring from the supporting sleeve.

WARNING: Caustic fluids

Danger of chemical burns
→ Wear personal protective gear.

→ Ensure that there is good ventilation.

→ Avoid contact with caustic fluid.

→ If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.

Information

Leave the support ring in position on the insertion part after use to protect the tools.

When positioning the crankshaft sealing ring, only press on the support ring.

Check tools -1 and 2- and crankshaft sealing ring -3- .

If necessary:

Small burred spots and damaged areas on tools can be eliminated with a nail file, then removed with an oilstone or a fine abrasive or polishing cloth.

Clean tools using solvent naphtha.

Prepare crankshaft sealing ring -1- .

Sealing ring crankshaft with insertion part on crankshaft flange

Position crankshaft sealing ring -1- on the insertion part -3- .

Position crankshaft sealing ring -1- with insertion piece -3- on crankshaft flange and fit screws -2- by hand.
Pull in crankshaft sealing ring.

Assembly aid 9774 on crankshaft flange

> 9774 - Assembly aid-1- must be positioned on insertion part.

Slowly screw in screw for > 9774 - assembly aid-1- until the sealing ring is pulled in all the way.

> 9774 - Assembly aid-1- must be fitted for 2 minutes.

Remove tools.
Check that the crankshaft sealing ring is seated correctly.

Installation dimension of crankshaft sealing ring (on belt side)

Measure dimension -A - at four positions offset by 90° -Arrows- .

> Dimension 2.7 mm +/- 0.3 mm

If dimension -A - differs from the required value at one or more points: Fit the tools again and pull the sealing ring in fully.
