Removing Crankshaft Sealing Ring
- Risk of engine damage caused by drilling chips
- Risk of damage to the crankcase
- Do not apply pressure while drilling
→ Carefully remove drill chips
→ Drill carefully
- Leaks
→ Never use an abrasive or polishing cloth or brushes with metal bristles.
→ Follow cleaning instructions.
- Danger of chemical burns
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Ensure that there is good ventilation.
→ Avoid contact with caustic fluid.
→ If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.
- If there are corroded areas on the crankshaft flange:
Clean the crankshaft flange.
Carefully remove corrosion on the crankshaft flange using a suitable metal-polishing pad.
Clean the crankshaft flange with acetone or solvent naphtha.
- Remove crankshaft sealing ring -1-
.
Crankshaft sealing ring on flywheel side
Drill holes in the crankshaft sealing ring -1- at two directly opposite positions using a greased drill bit with ø 2 mm.
Screw two tapping screws (Ø approx. 3 mm, length approx. 30 mm) into the bores.
Pull off crankshaft sealing ring -1- alternately at both tapping screws using > VAS 6965 - puller set .
- Check crankshaft flange and crankcase bore for damage.
- Clean crankshaft flange and crankcase bore.
Remove drill chips.
If necessary:
Carefully remove small edges or burrs on the chamfer of the crankshaft flange using an oilstone.
If there are corroded areas on the crankshaft flange:
Carefully clean the crankshaft flange again using a suitable metal-polishing pad.
Clean the crankshaft flange and crankcase bore with acetone or solvent naphtha and leave the components to dry off for at least 3 minutes.
