Disassembling Rear Spring Strut

Information 

Recommendation for workshops replacing shock absorbers/spring dampers:

• Dampers can be replaced separately up to a mileage of 30, 000 km or 3 years. 
• If the mileage is > 30, 000 km or the components are more than 3 years old, we recommend replacing them in pairs. 

Information 

If the coil spring is replaced: Always replace coil springs in pairs only!

1. Clamp the spring strut in > VAS 6908 - Stationary Spring Compressor  in such a way that the mounting plates of the spring tensioning device are positioned on the spring strut supporting mount. > Rear spring strut in spring tensioning device

   WARNING: Preloaded or pressurized components 

   • Risk of squashing or bruising 

     → Do not reach into the danger area.

     → Relieve tension on components before starting work.

     → Secure components to prevent them from loosening suddenly.

2. Pre-tension the spring strut until the tension on the piston rod is relieved.
3. Unscrew nut -1-  using > T10001 - shock absorber set  . Counter at the hexagon -2-  on the piston rod at the same time.

4. Relieve tension on the spring strut (there must be no tension on the coil spring!).
5. Remove all components -1 to 14-  from the piston rod.
