Installing Rear Spring Strut

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Move rear spring strut into installation position.
  2. Fit rear spring strut -1-  on the wheel bearing housing.

    1. 2.1 Screw in screws -2-  as far as they will go (do not tighten!).
  3. Fit trailing arm -1-  on wheel bearing housing.

    Mounting for trailing arm

    1. 3.1 Screw in screws securing trailing arm to wheel bearing housing -2-  as far as they will go (do not tighten!).
  4. Fit rear spring strut on the body.

    1. 4.1 Tighten nuts -2-  . > Tightening torque 30 Nm (22.1 ftlb.) 
    2. 4.2 Connect and lock electric plug connection -1-  .
  5. Insert foam -1-  .

  6. Tighten threaded joints in zero position.
    WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly 
    • Risk of crushing 
    • Risk of damage to components 

      → Wear personal protective gear.

      → Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

    Information 

    Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.

    1. 6.1 Lift the wheel bearing housing as far as required using lifting equipment (e.g. > VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack  ) until the lower trailing arm is horizontal. > Zero position

    2. 6.2 Tighten screws -2-  securing rear spring strut -1-  to wheel bearing housing. > Tightening torque 110 Nm (81.1 ftlb.)

    3. 6.3 Tighten screws -2-  securing trailing arm -1-  to wheel bearing housing. > Initial tightening 70 Nm (51.6 ftlb.)  > Final tightening + 180°
