Installing Control Arm

- Fit bracket -5-
on the body.
Mounting for bracket
- 1.1 Tighten screws -4- . > Tightening torque 55 Nm (40.6 ftlb.)
- 1.2 Tighten nut -3-
. > Tightening torque 65 Nm (47.9 ftlb.)
If stud on -item 3- was loosened, this must be tightened beforehand. > Tightening torque 25 Nm (18.4 ftlb.)
- 1.3 Tighten screw -2- for bracket for brake line and rear axle steering line. > Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
- 1.4 Only for vehicles with PDCC: Tighten screws -1- for bracket for PDCC lines. > Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
- Fit control arm -1-
on the wheel bearing housing.
Mounting for control arm on wheel bearing housing
- 2.1 Screw in screws -2- as far as they will go (do not tighten!).
- Fit trailing arm -1-
on the wheel bearing housing.
Mounting for trailing arm
- 3.1 Screw in screws -2- as far as they will go (do not tighten!).
- Tighten threaded joints in zero position.
WARNING:
Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly
- Risk of crushing
- Risk of damage to components
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).
Information
Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.
- 4.1 Lift the wheel bearing housing as far as required using lifting equipment (e.g. > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack
) until the lower trailing arm is horizontal. > Zero position of rear axle>

- 4.2 Tighten threaded joint securing control arm to wheel bearing housing -2-
. > Initial tightening 70 Nm (51.6 ftlb.)
> Final tightening + 180°

- 4.3 Tighten threaded joint securing trailing arm to wheel bearing housing -2- . > Initial tightening 70 Nm (51.6 ftlb.) > Final tightening + 180°
