Installing Upper Control Arm (Front)
Information
The wheel suspension is tilted outwards at the top when starting work.
- Fit upper control arm (front) -2-
on the rear-axle carrier side section.
Mounting for upper control arm (front) on rear-axle carrier side section
- 1.1 Position upper control arm (front) -2- and screw -1- in installation position.
- Fit rear-axle carrier side section.
- 2.1 Move rear-axle carrier side section into installation position.
- 2.2 Tighten screws -2- on the rear-axle carrier side section -1- . > Initial tightening 70 Nm (51.6 ftlb.) > Final tightening + 180°
- 2.3 Tighten nut -3-
on the rear-axle carrier side section -1-
. > Initial tightening 90 Nm (66.4 ftlb.)
> Final tightening + 90°
If stud on -item 3- was loosened, this must be tightened beforehand. > Tightening torque 30 Nm (22.1 ftlb.)
Mounting for rear-axle carrier side section
Screw in threaded joint -2- on upper control arm (front) -1- as far as it will go (do not tighten!).
Mounting for upper control arm (front)
- Tighten threaded joints in zero position.WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly
- Risk of crushing
- Risk of damage to components
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).
Information
Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.
- 3.1 Lift the wheel bearing housing as far as required using lifting equipment (e.g. > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack
) until the lower trailing arm is horizontal. > Zero position of rear axle
Zero position of rear axle
