Installing Trailing Arm

  1. Install trailing arm -1-  .

    Mounting for trailing arm

    1. 1.1 Screw in screws -2 and 3-  as far as they will go (do not tighten!)
  2. Tighten threaded joints in zero position.
    WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly 
    • Risk of crushing 
    • Risk of damage to components 

      → Wear personal protective gear.

      → Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

    Information 

    Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.

    1. 2.1 Lift the wheel bearing housing as far as required using lifting equipment (e.g. > VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack  ) until the lower trailing arm is horizontal. > Zero position of rear axle

    2. 2.2 Tighten threaded joint securing trailing arm to wheel bearing housing -2-  . > Initial tightening 70 Nm (51.6 ftlb.)  > Final tightening + 180° 
    3. 2.3 Align eccentric screw according to the marking. > Mounting for trailing arm on rear axle carrier

    4. 2.4 Tighten threaded joint securing trailing arm to rear axle cross member -3-  . > Tightening torque 100 Nm (73.8 ftlb.)
