Preliminary Work

NOTE: Dirt and contamination
  • Risk of damage to units or components

    → Protect components from dirt and contamination.

    → Clean or replace dirty components.

  1. Remove engine.

    > 100119 REMOVE AND INSTALL ENGINE .

  2. Removing transmission.

    Refer to WM, 343527 REMOVING AND MOUNTING TRANSMISSION .

    Refer to WM, 373427 REMOVING AND MOUNTING DOUBLE CLUTCH TRANSMISSION .

  3. Remove flywheel.

    136019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FLYWHEEL .

  4. Mount the engine on the engine assembly support.

    > 1001IN TOOLS FOR REMOVING UNITS AND WORKING ON THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY SUPPORT .

  5. Drain engine oil.

    170117 DRAIN AND FILL ENGINE OIL

  6. Remove hall sender.

    283919 REMOVE AND INSTALL HALL SENDER .

  7. Remove exhaust system.

    260119 REMOVE AND INSTALL EXHAUST SYSTEM .

  8. Remove drive belt cover and generator cover.

    138419 REMOVE AND INSTALL DRIVE BELT COVER .

  9. Remove drive belt.

    137819 REMOVE AND INSTALL DRIVE BELT .

  10. Remove valve block for vacuum system with vacuum lines.

    242319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING VALVE BLOCK .

  11. Remove turbocharger with exhaust manifold and lines.

    213019 REMOVE AND INSTALL TURBOCHARGER .

    261019 REMOVE AND INSTALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD .

  12. Remove shield.

    261219 REMOVE AND INSTALL SHIELD .

  13. Remove high-pressure pumps.

    246319 REMOVE AND INSTALL HIGH-PRESSURE PUMP .

  14. Disconnect positive crankcase vent line and oil filler neck holder on the intake distributor.

    Screw on upper holder and vent line

    Press together latching ring on the vent line -1-Arrows A-  and pull off vent line -1-  in -Arrow direction B-  .

    Unscrew screw -2-  on holder.

  15. Remove intake distributor.

    244619 REMOVE AND INSTALL INTAKE DISTRIBUTOR .

  16. Remove engine wire harness.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  17. Remove fuel lines.

    249019 REMOVE AND INSTALL FUEL LINE .

  18. Remove oil filler neck -2-  .

    Unscrew screws -1-  .

    Pull oil filler neck in -Arrow direction-  out of the crankcase.

    Close off line connections using suitable stoppers.

  19. Remove positive crankcase vent line -1-  .

    Unscrew screw on oil module -8-  and disconnect adapter.

    Replace O-rings -5-  .

    Unclip connections -3 and 7-  .

    Disconnect positive crankcase vent line, unclip it from the holder and remove it.

  20. Disconnect coolant hoses -1-  from the oil cooler.

    Release spring band clamps -2-  using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers  and disconnect coolant hoses -1-  .

    Unclip positive crankcase vent line -3-  .

    For vehicles with PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control): Pull off hydraulic lines (not shown).

    Close off line connections using suitable stoppers.

  21. Loosen coolant collection unit -1-  .

    Unscrew screws -2-  .

    Pull coolant collection unit -1-  out of the connecting pipes -2-  .

    Replacing O-rings.

  22. Vehicles without Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC): Unscrew screw -2 and 3-  and remove support with deflection roller -1-  .

  23. Vehicles with Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC): Remove pump (PDCC) together with pressure and return lines.

  24. Removing the generator.

  25. Remove actuators for camshaft control.

    Refer to the appropriate service information. .

  26. Remove coolant pipe feed -1-  .

    Unscrew screw -2-  and remove coolant pipe feed -1-  .

  27. Remove compressor.

    Refer to WM, 873419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING AIR-CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR .

  28. Remove the starter.

  29. Remove heat shield for coolant connection piece -1-  .

    Unclip clip -4-  from cross member and move electric line -3-  aside.

    Unscrew screws -2-  .

    Remove heat shield for coolant connection piece -1-  .

  31. Remove coolant connection piece with directional-control valve and coolant pipe.

    Lower coolant pipe

    Unscrew screws on holder -2-  .

    Pull off lower coolant pipe -1-  .

    Remove coolant connection piece together with directional-control valve and coolant pipe.

  32. Remove belt tensioner damper.

    137319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING BELT TENSIONER DAMPER .

  33. Remove coolant distributor housing.

    195919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COOLANT DISTRIBUTOR HOUSING .

  34. Remove oil cooler bracket with oil cooler.

    176719 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OIL COOLER BRACKET .

    If necessary, remove oil cooler, clean components by hand and replace gaskets.

    174019 REMOVE AND INSTALL OIL COOLER (OIL/WATER HEAT EXCHANGER) .

  35. Remove knock sensor.

    287219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING KNOCK SENSOR .

  36. Remove ignition coils.

    282020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING IGNITION COILS

  37. Remove the cylinder head cover.

    158219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CYLINDER HEAD COVER .

  38. Remove camshafts.

    150520 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CAMSHAFT ACTUATORS (INCLUDES SETTING CONTROLS) .

  39. Remove cylinder head left and right.

    157019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CYLINDER HEAD .

  40. Removing solenoid valve for valve lift adjustment.

    155519 REMOVE AND INSTALL SOLENOID VALVE FOR VALVE LIFT ADJUSTMENT .

  41. Remove coolant regulator housing.

    195519 REMOVE AND INSTALL COOLANT REGULATOR HOUSING .

  42. Remove coolant connecting tube -1-  .

    Unscrew screw -2-  on the retaining bracket and remove coolant connecting tube -1-  .

  43. Remove lower coolant guide -1-  .

    Unscrew screws -2-  and remove lower coolant guide -1-  .

  44. Remove coolant pump.
