Removing Engine
- Danger of chemical burns
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Ensure that there is good ventilation.
→ Avoid contact with caustic fluid.
→ If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.
- Pull off right -1-
coolant hose.
Remove spring clamp -2- and pull off coolant hose.
Close off opening using a suitable stopper. Re-fit spring clamp.
Check O-ring and replace it if necessary.

WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials- Danger of fire or explosion
→ Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
→ Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.
→ Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.
→ Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.
→ Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.
- Danger of fire or explosion
- Before opening the fuel line, attach or mount a warning sign -1-
in a clearly visible position on the vehicle.

- Open tank vent line -2-
and fuel low-pressure connection -3-
in the engine compartment.
Open holder -1- and unclip lines.
Pull off plug-in couplings on the lines.
Soak up any emerging fuel with a cloth.

- Open vent lines -1- at the coolant reservoir.
Press locking lugs on the coolant vent line and pull off line to the engine.

- Open supply connecting lines for engine cooling and heating -2-
.
Open plug-in couplings -1- by pulling the spring clamps into unlocking position and disconnect plug-in couplings.

- Pull off left coolant hose -1-
.
Remove spring clamp -2- and pull off coolant hose.
Close off opening using a stopper and re-fit spring clamp.
Check O-ring and replace it if necessary.

- Coupe vehicles:
Remove struts -1-
.
Unscrew screws (M12 x 40) -2-with washer. Replace screw.
Unscrew screws M12 x 45 -4- . Replace screw.
Unscrew screws (M10 x 45) -3- and remove struts.

- Cabriolet vehicles:
Remove struts -1-
.
Unscrew screw (M12 x 40) -2- with washer. Replace screw.
Unscrew screw (M12 x 45) -4- . Replace screw.
Unscrew screw (M8 x 25) -5- .
Unscrew screw (M10 x 45) -3- and remove struts.

- Loosen anti-roll bar at the connecting link -1-
at the bottom.
Unscrew collar nut -2- and counter at the internal Torx screw.
Replace collar nut (also for vehicles with PDCC).

Loosen screws -2 and 3- and counter at each screw.
Replace screw and collar nut.

You will need the help of a second person in order to remove the rear axle carrier.
Position > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack under the rear axle carrier.
Unscrew M12 screws -2 and 3- .
Lower the rear axle carrier with anti-roll bar and set it down.
Replace screws.

- Disconnect cable plugs on double-clutch transmission.
Release and disconnect three cable plugs -1- .

- Disconnect and unclip wiring harness on the manual transmission -Arrows-

1 Neutral gear sensor 2 Reverse gear switch 3 Temperature sensor 4 Speed sensor - Loosen and disengage shift and selector cables.
Loosen shift -1- and selector cables -2- by pressing off ball joints using > VAS 6933 - disassembly tool .
Disengage shift and selector cables at the support brackets by pressing the locking clips -3- to the rear -Arrows- .

All vehicles:
- Disconnect B+line.
B+ line on PDK: Open cap -1- and unscrew collar nut -2- .

B+ line -1- - manual transmission: Open the cap -Arrow- and unscrew collar nut on the cable shoe -2- .

- Loosen ground strap -1- on the longitudinal member and unscrew M8 screw -2-

For all wheel drive vehicles:
- Loosen cardan shaft -1- on transmission flange and tie it up with a cable-tie -2-

- Prepare > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform
for removing the engine.

Adjust tilt angle of the elevating platform plate -1- according to the installation position of the engine/transmission unit -Arrow- .

Support the engine/transmission unit with the elevating platform.
- Also secure the engine/transmission unit on the elevating platform with a tension strap (> 9454 - strapping belts ).
- Loosen engine mounts on both sides.
Unscrew screws -1- to the left and right on the grommets -Arrow- on the rear carrier.
Replace screws.

- Remove transmission support and transmission bracket.
Unscrew screws -1- and nuts -2- on the transmission bracket.
Unscrew nuts -4- on transmission support -5- .

CAUTION: Risk of material damage when lowering engine- Damaged components must be replaced.
→ Get one or two more people to help.
- Damaged components must be replaced.
- Slowly lower the engine/transmission unit by about 100 mm using the elevating platform.
- For vehicles with manual transmission:
Remove clutch slave cylinder -1-

The clutch system remains closed!
Unscrew M8 screws -2- and remove clutch slave cylinder.
Secure clutch slave cylinder with a tie-wrap.
