Installing Engine
- Tightening torques can be found as additional information in the relevant information under X - General.
Information
- If the engine is to be replaced, always read off the IMA values on the new fuel injectors before installing the new engine and enter them in the PIWIS Tester.
- Tester path: Maintenance/repairs => menu item Injectors
- If the engine is to be replaced, read off the IMA values of the fuel injectors
before installation and assign them to the relevant cylinder by selecting Maintenance/repairs → menu item Injectors → Install new injectors on the PIWIS Tester.
The IMA value can be read off the injector at the positions -4- shown in the illustration.

→ Enlist assistance of second and, if necessary, third person
- Material damage!
- Gradually raise the engine/transmission unit using > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform .
- For vehicles with manual transmission:
Install clutch slave cylinder -1-

303019 REMOVE AND INSTALL CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER
Remove tie-wrap.
Fit and tighten M8 screws -2- .
> Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
Clutch slave cylinder
- Slowly raise the engine/transmission unit further.
- Fit transmission support and transmission bracket.
Fit transmission support -5- with collar nuts -4- .
Fit transmission bracket -3- on transmission mount.
Fit screws -1- and collar nuts -2 and 4- .

- Raise the engine/transmission unit to installation position.
- Secure engine mount to the engine brackets with new screws -1-
.
Fit screws on the engine brackets on both sides in the grommets on carrier rear -Arrow- and tighten them.
> Initial tightening 70 Nm (52 ftlb.) → > Final tightening + 45°
Engine mounts
- Secure transmission support and transmission bracket.
Tighten screws -1- and collar nuts -2 and 4- .
Screws -1- : > Initial tightening 30 Nm (22.1 ftlb.) → > Torque angle 60°
Nuts -2-: > Initial tightening 30 Nm (22.1 ftlb.) → > Torque angle 60°
Nuts on transmission support -4-: > Initial tightening 30 Nm (22.1 ftlb.) → > Torque angle 60°

- Loosen tension straps and move > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform out of the work area.
- Connect cable plug -2-
on oxygen sensor -1-
upstream of catalytic converter and clip in plug connection on the holder (carrier rear).
Secure cable -4- with the retaining clips.

- Connect intake pipe -1-
and lower moulded hose (on pressure side) -4-
to the intake air line and turbocharger.
Tighten new V-band clamp -2- on the intake pipe.
> Tightening torque 5.5 Nm (4 ftlb.) +/- 0.2 Nm (0.1 ftlb.)
Right side only: Connect vent line -3- .
Tighten screw-type clamp -5- on the moulded hose.
> Tightening torque 5.5 f4 ftlb.) Nm +/- 0.2 Nm (0.1 ftlb.)
Intake pipe and lower moulded hose on turbocharger
For all-wheel-drive vehicles:
- Secure the cardan shaft with new screws on the cardan flange.

Cardan flange on PDK: > Initial tightening 20 Nm (15 ftlb.) → > Torque angle 45 Grad
Cardan flange on manual transmission: > Tightening torque 35 Nm (26 ftlb.)
Work for Porsche double-clutch transmission (PDK):
- Connect cable plugs on double-clutch transmission.
Connect and lock three cable plugs -1- .

- Fit B+line on the transmission.
Insert cable shoe -1- and fit and tighten collar nut -2- . Close flap.
> Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)

- Secure ground strap -1- for engine to the body using an M8 screw -2-

- Secure stabilizer to connecting link -1-

- M10x 45 screw -2- : > Tightening torque 55 Nm (40.6 ftlb.)
- M12x45 screw -4- : > Initial tightening 30 Nm (22.1 ftlb.) → > Final tightening + 90°
- M8 x 25 screw -5- : > Tightening torque 30 Nm (22.1 ftlb.)

- Connect cable plugs for headlight levelling system at the left and right.
Information
- Replace O-rings on the cooling system.
- Clean plug connection and coolant hoses before assembly.
- Remove stoppers before fitting the coolant lines and hoses.
- Fit coolant hoses in engine compartment.
Lightly grease O-rings.
Check that the coolant hoses are fitted securely.
- Route wiring harness for exhaust temperature sensor in the engine compartment.

- Connect plug-in couplings for tank vent line -2-
and fuel low-pressure line -3-
in the engine compartment.
Check that the line is fitted securely.
Clip in lines in holder -1- and close the retaining clip.

- Connect vent lines to the coolant reservoir.
