Removing Drive Shaft

- Fit protective tube on the drive shaft to prevent damage to the drive shaft.

- Unscrew hexagon nut -1-
securing drive shaft to wheel hub using > 9471 - socket wrench.
Another person is needed in order to actuate the service brake.

- Unscrew screws -2-
securing rear drive shaft -1-
to transmission flange.
Another person is needed in order to actuate the service brake.

- Loosen upper control arm from the wheel bearing housing.

- 4.1 Unscrew screw -1- securing rear upper trailing arm to wheel bearing housing.
- 4.2 Unscrew screw and collar nut -2- securing centre upper trailing arm to wheel bearing housing.
- 4.3 Unscrew screw -3- securing rear-axle steering adjuster to wheel bearing housing.
- 4.4 Replace screws and nuts.
- Loosen lower control arm from the wheel bearing housing.
Trailing arm to wheel bearing housing at the bottom
- 5.1 Unscrew collar nut -1- securing connecting link to anti-roll bar and pull the connecting link out of the anti-roll bar. Counter at the internal Torx screw on the connecting link.
- 5.2 Unscrew screw and collar nut -2- securing lower trailing arm to wheel bearing housing.
- 5.3 Unscrew screw and collar nut -3- securing longitudinal arm to wheel bearing housing.
- 5.4 Unscrew screw and nut -4- securing spring strut to wheel bearing housing.
- 5.5 Replace screws and nuts.
Information
Fit engine and gearbox jack only at the wheel bearing housing, not at the brake disc!
- Support wheel bearing housing using > VAS 6931 - transmission and engine jack and secure it to prevent it from falling down.

- Press drive shaft pins out of the wheel hub.

- 8.1 > 9794 - Screw assembly aid-1- into the wheel hub until it contacts the wheel hub. The spindle -2- must not touch the drive shaft when screwing in the sleeve! Screw out the spindle further if necessary.
- 8.2 Use an open-ended wrench (width across flats a/f 36) to counter at the flat surface -3- and screw spindle -2- further into the > 9794 - assembly aid clockwise until the drive shaft is pressed out of the wheel hub.

Information
Do not kink or pull electric lines and brake hose too tightly.
The drive shaft must be secured against falling.
- Carefully detach wheel bearing housing -1-
from the control arms, spring strut and tie rod, swivel it forward and pull drive shaft -2-
out of the wheel hub.
The help of another person is required.

- Remove drive shaft.
- Check inner and outer bellows of the drive shaft for damage and replace the drive shaft if damaged.
