Removing Wheel Bearing Housing

Information 

The wheel bearing housing is removed together with the spring strut.

1. Remove brake disc cover plate -1-  .

   1. 1.1  Unscrew screws -2-  on brake disc cover plate.
   2. 1.2  Remove brake disc cover plate.
2. Only for vehicles with front axle lift system:  Open the separating coupling -1-  on the hydraulic line in the wheel housing.

   1. 2.1  Unscrew fastening screw -2-  from the line bracket.
   2. 2.2  Spread tabs of the separating coupling using suitable pliers and pull out upper line.
3. Only for vehicles with PDCC:  Remove PDCC adapter -1-  from the wheel bearing housing.

   1. 3.1  Unscrew and remove screws -2-  .
4. Remove angle sensor for headlight beam adjustment from the lower trailing arm.

   1. 4.1  Unscrew screw -2-  .
5. Remove tie-rod ball -1-  from the wheel bearing housing.

   1. 5.1  Unscrew nut -2-  and counter using > 9546 - screwdriver  at the ball-joint pin.
   2. 5.2  Press off the tie-rod ball using > 9560 - press-out tool-1-  .

6. Check the boot -1-  of the tie-rod ball for signs of damage. If the boot is damaged, replace the tie-rod ball.

7. Only for all-wheel drive vehicles and for rear-wheel drive vehicles on which the wheel bearing/wheel hub will be replaced:  Carefully press the peg of the drive shaft/axle journal out of the wheel hub using > VAS 6926 - Puller set-1-  .

8. Remove lower trailing arm -1-  from the wheel bearing housing.

   1. 8.1  crew off nut -2-  .
   2. 8.2  Press off lower trailing arm using > 9560 - press-out tool-1-  .

9. Remove spring strut -1-  from the body.

   1. 9.1  Mark installation position of the nuts -2-  .
   2. 9.2  Release and unplug electric plug connection -3-  .
   3. 9.3  Unscrew nuts -2-  , hold the spring strut securely at the coil spring and remove it.
10. Remove spring strut from wheel bearing housing.
    1. 10.1 For vehicles without PDCC:  Remove connecting link from wheel bearing housing.

       1. 10.1.1  Screw off fastening nut -1-  .
    2. 10.2 For vehicles with PDCC:  Remove threaded joint for damper pipe clamp -1-  .
