Removing Crankshaft Sealing Ring
Information
- Work on delicate engine parts must be carried out conscientiously and precisely.
- Use a suitable tray.
- Absolute cleanliness is essential.

- Spray sealing face of sealing ring with anti-rust agent (e.g. WD40).WARNING: Caustic fluids
- Danger of chemical burns
→ Wear personal protectvie gear.
→ Ensure that there is good ventilation.
→ Avoid contact with caustic fluid.
→ If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.
- Danger of chemical burns
- Carefully remove smaller edges or burrs on the chamfer of the crankshaft flange with an oilstone if necessary.
Then, carefully remove metal chips and residual dirt from the crankshaft journal and crankcase tore using a clean, lint-free cloth soaked in solvent naphtha or acetone.
CAUTION: The crankshaft flange can be damaged if not cleaned correctly.- Leaks
→ Never use an abrasive or polishing cloth or brushes with metal bristles.
→ Follow cleaning instructions.
- Leaks
- If there are corroded areas on the crankshaft flange, only use a metal-polishing pad to remove these.
Then, carefully clean the flange using a clean, lint-free cloth that has been soaked in solvent naphtha or acetone.
NOTE: Drilling work on crankshaft sealing ring- Risk of engine damage caused by drilling chips
- Risk of damage to the crankcase
- Do not apply pressure while drilling
→ Carefully remove drill chips
→ Drill carefully
- Drill holes in the crankshaft sealing ring -1-
in two opposite positions -Arrows-
using a greased drill bit (Ø 2 mm) -2-
and carefully remove drill chips.
Boring the sealing ring
- Pull out sealing ring.
Screw two tapping screws (Ø approx. 3 mm, length approx. 30 mm) into the bores.
Pull sealing ring off alternately using > VAS 6965 - Puller set at the tapping screws.
