Assembling Crankshaft
- Risk of damage to units or components
→ Protect components from dirt and contamination.
→ Clean or replace dirty components.
- Assemble new connecting-rod bearing shells on the crankshaft according to the marking -2-
.
Marking for bearing shell allocation on the crankshaft
1 Allocation of man bearings for upper crankshaft 2 Allocation of connecting-rod bearing R Bearing shell with red color marking RHD vehicle Bearing shell with blue color marking W Bearing shell with yellow color marking - Fit connecting rods.
The data matrix code marking -1- must be facing the outlet side for all connecting rods.
Marking points -2- on connecting rod and connecting-rod bearing cap must be on the same side.
Screw in and tighten new connecting rod bolts.
Step 1: > Initial tightening 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)
Step 2: > Subsequent tightening torque 16 Nm (12 ftlb.)
Step 3: > Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
Step 4: > Torque angle + 80°
Step 5: > Loosen screws - 360°
Step 6: > Initial tightening 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)
Step 7: > Subsequent tightening torque 16 Nm (12 ftlb.)
Step 8: > Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
Step 9: > Torque angle + 80° +/- 3°
Connecting rod markings
- Assemble and fit new bearing shells for both crankcase halves on the crankshaft and crankcase half 1-3 according to the markings.
Coat bearing shells with new engine oil.
- Insert crankshaft into crankcase half.
