Removing Pistons - Cylinders 4-6

Screw in screws -2- on the crankshaft flange.
Use > 9773 - turning device-1- to turn the crankshaft until the connecting rod bolts can be reached.

Remove pistons with connecting rods -1- for cylinders 4 - 6.

Unscrew screws -1- on connecting rod cap -2- .

On > 9783 - assembly aid-2- , unscrew the grip handle and screw the bar into a threaded bore on the connecting rod -1- .

Press piston 4 with connecting rod down out of the cylinder bore.

Repeat these steps for removing pistons 5 and 6.

Unscrew screws -2- and remove connecting rod cap and connecting rod.

Remove and dispose of sealing ring for crankshaft at transmission and drive side.

Turning the crankshaft (without vibration damper)
Remove crankshaft with timing chains from crankcase half for cylinders 4 - 6.

Remove bearing shells from crankcase halves and dispose of them.
Remove O-ring from crankcase half for cylinders 4 - 6 and dispose of it.
Clean the crankcase and sealing faces.
Procedure for replacing pistons or connecting rods:

Insert connecting rod -1- with piston into special tool > 9778 - retaining device (can be used for pistons with a diameter of 102 mm).

For pistons with diameter of 91 mm: Pull off piston receiving element and fit > 9778/1 - piston receiving element .

Remove piston-pin circlip using > 9764 - disassembly tool .

Press out piston pin and set aside immediately with the relevant piston.
