Subsequent Work

WARNING: Steering-angle sensor not calibrated or calibrated incorrectly 
  • Unexpected vehicle handling 
  • Steering-angle sensor does not function 
  • Malfunction in steering-angle sensor 

    → After working on wheel suspension parts, when replacing the steering-angle sensor, and after changing the wheel alignment values, calibrate the steering-angle sensor using the PIWIS Tester. 

    → Keep the front wheels in straight-ahead position on the measuring platform during calibration.

    → For vehicles with electromechanical steering, also re-teach the electric steering lock settings.

  1. If the previous wheel alignment values (on rear and/or front axle) were changed, the following subsequent work must be performed.
    1. 1.1  Calibrate steering-angle sensor

      456005 INITIALIZING AND CALIBRATING STEERING-ANGLE SENSOR

    2. 1.2  Teach power-steering gear

      489025 TEACHING POWER-STEERING GEAR

    3. 1.3  Adjust control unit for distance measuring sensor

      278515 ADJUSTING CONTROL UNIT FOR DISTANCE MEASURING SENSOR

    4. 1.4 If installed:  Calibrate front camera

      >  WM, 963855 REPLACING FRONT CAMERA 

    5. 1.5 If installed:  Calibrate infrared camera

      >  WM, 908055 REPLACING INFRARED CAMERA 

  2. Teach headlight beam adjustment.
    1. 2.1  Connect the PIWIS Tester  to the vehicle and switch it on.
    2. 2.2  Switch on the ignition.
    3. 2.3  Start diagnostics.
    4. 2.4  Select "front-end electronics" control unit.
    5. 2.5  Select the Maintenance/repairs tab.
    6. 2.6  Select "Teach headlight beam adjustment" function and press F12  to continue.
    7. 2.7  Follow the instructions on the Tester.
