Adjusting Front-Axle Toe

  1. Move steering wheel into center position using > VAS 6826 - steering wheel alignment gauge  (with integrated angle measurement box). > Steering wheel balance

    Information 

    Only use steering-wheel holders that do not project into the airbag unit area. Shorten the guide rod of the steering-wheel holder at the top if necessary.

  2. Clamp steering wheel in center position with the steering-wheel holder. > Steering wheel holder

  3. Check whether the steering wheel is offset with respect to the power-steering gear. The center position marking on the sensor cover -1-  must be aligned with the marking on the protection cap -2-  .

    1. 3.1  If the steering wheel is offset with respect to the power-steering gear, re-position the steering wheel.

  4. Adjust the toe.

    Front-axle toe

    1. 4.1  Loosen nut -1-  on tie rod using > 9730 - socket-wrench insert  . Counter the tie-rod ball at the flattened area -2-  using an open-ended wrench.
    2. 4.2  Adjust the toe by turning the tie rod at the hexagon -3-  .
    3. 4.3  Tighten nut -1-  on tie rod using > 9730 - socket-wrench insert  . Counter the tie-rod ball at the flattened area -2-  using an open-ended wrench.

      A tightening torque for the nut -1-  of > Tightening torque 50 Nm (36.9 ftlb.) +/- 5 Nm (3.7 ftlb.)  , when using > 9730 - socket-wrench insert  . corresponds to a value of approx. > Tightening torque 32.5 Nm (24 ftlb.)  on the torque wrench.
