Installing Rear Brake Disc

Information 

New brake pads and brake discs require a bedding-in period of several hundred kilometres! Only then do they achieve their best friction coefficient and wear value!

The slightly reduced braking effect must be compensated for by increased pressure on the brake pedal.

  1. Prepare for installing the brake disc.
    1. 1.1  Check that all components, including the electric parking brake, are in perfect condition (visual inspection) and replace if necessary.
    2. 1.2  Clean the flat and centering surfaces on the brake disc and wheel hub.
    3. 1.3  Coat the centering surface on the wheel hub with a very thin coating of Optimoly TA (aluminum paste) (not on GT3 vehicles).
  2. Wheels with wheel bolts: 

    Install brake disc -1-  .

    1. 2.1  Position brake disc -1-  on the wheel hub.
    2. 2.2  Fit and tighten new  brake disc centering screws -2-  .

      > Tightening torque 5 Nm (3.7 ftlb.)

      Rear brake disc

  3. Wheels with centre lock (not GT3 vehicles): 

    Install brake disc -1-  .

    1. 3.1  Position brake disc -1-  on the wheel hub.

      Note the bores on the brake disc at the wheel hub!

    2. 3.2  Fit and tighten new  wheel driver bolts -2-  .

      > Tightening torque 31 Nm (22.9 ftlb.)

  4. Wheels with centre lock GT3 vehicles: 

    Install brake disc -1-  . Do not grease the centering surfaces on the wheel hub.

    Brake disc GT3

    1. 4.1  Position brake disc -1-  over the drivers -2-  on the wheel hub.
    2. 4.2  Fit and tighten new centering screws -3-  .
  5. Move electric parking brake (EPB) into installation position.
    1. 5.1  Connect PIWIS Tester  to the vehicle; switch on PIWIS Tester. 
    2. 5.2  Switch on ignition.
    3. 5.3  Start diagnostics.
    4. 5.4  Select 'Porsche Stability Management (PSM)'  control unit.
    5. 5.5  Select 'Drive links/tests  ' tab.
    6. 5.6  Select menu item 'End brake pad change mode  ' press F12  to continue.
    7. 5.7  Follow the instructions in the Tester.
