Subsequent Work

  1. Install front-axle carrier.

    400919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT-AXLE CROSS MEMBER

  2. All-wheel drive vehicles only: 

    Install front-axle final drive.

    Refer to WM, 398819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ALL-WHEEL FINAL DRIVE

  3. Install filler flap.

    Refer to WM, 553719 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FILLER FLAP

  4. Install front part of front wheel housing liner at the left and right.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  5. Install battery console -1-  .
    1. 5.1 Plug in electric plug connection on fuel pump control unit at the underside of the battery console -1-  and check that it is seated securely.
    2. 5.2 Tighten screws -2-  . > Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)

  6. Install carbon canister.

  7. Install air inlet housing.

    Refer to WM, 851419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING AIR INLET HOUSING

  8. Install the battery.

    WARNING: Caustic fluids 
    • Danger of chemical burns 

      → Wear personal protective gear.

      → Ensure that there is good ventilation.

      → Avoid contact with caustic fluid.

      → If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.

  9. Fill in coolant.

  10. Bleed the cooling system.

    190107 BLEEDING THE COOLING SYSTEM

    WARNING: Flammable or explosive materials 
    • Danger of fire or explosion 

      → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.

      → Use suction to remove ignitable vapors.

      → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.

  11. Fill in fuel.

  12. Remove protective covers from the vehicle.


  1. Install front-axle cross member.

    400919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT-AXLE CROSS MEMBER

  2. Install front parts of front wheel housing liners.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  3. Install filler flap.

    Refer to WM, 553719 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FILLER FLAP

  4. Install carbon canister.

  5. Install air inlet housing.

    Refer to WM, 851419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING AIR INLET HOUSING

  6. Install battery console -1-  .
    1. 6.1 Fasten electric plug connection on the underside of the fuel pump control unit and bring battery console -1-  into installation position.
    2. 6.2 Screw in and tighten screws -2-  .

      > Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)

  7. Install the battery.

  8. Fill in coolant.

    193817 DRAINING AND FILLING COOLANT

  9. Only if fuel was drained: 

    Fill in fuel.

    200317 DRAINING AND FILLING FUEL 

  10. Remove protective covers and warning sign.
