Draining Fuel Using The Piwis Tester

WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials

Danger of fire or explosion
→ Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.

→ Use suction to remove ignitable vapors.

→ Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.

→ Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.

→ Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.

WARNING: Caustic fluids

Danger of chemical burns
→ Wear personal protective gear.

→ Ensure that there is good ventilation.

→ Avoid contact with caustic fluid.

→ If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.

NOTE: NOTIFICATION
Fuel can leak out when flange cover is removed when fuel tank is full

Danger of fire, explosion or contact with fuel
→ If the fuel tank is full, approx. 20 liters of fuel must first be pumped out.

→ This is done by selecting the "Drain tank" function using the PIWIS Tester.

Information

Fuel can be pumped out using the following methods:

> By activating the fuel pump using the PIWIS Tester when the flange/fuel level sender is installed.

> Directly at the fuel tank when the flange/fuel level sender is removed.

Assembling fuel lines for pumping out fuel via the flange

1	> 9705/3 - Connecting line , long
2	> 9705/3 - Connecting line , short
3	Commercially available fuel-resistant hose piece with screw-type clamp
4	20-litre fuel container (have several containers ready, depending on the amount of fuel)

Disconnect fuel line.

1. 1.1 Open the lock -A- .
2. 1.2 Release -B- and pull off -C- fuel line.
> 9705/3 - Connecting lines must be connected. Then, push on fuel-resistant hose piece and secure with a screwtype clamp.
> 9705/3 - Connecting line-1- must be connected to the flange coupling using a push-on connector -2- . Then, check that it is fitted securely.

1. 4.1 Get another person to check that the fuel container is not overfilled.

Pumping out fuel using the PIWIS Tester:
Connect a battery charger.
1. 5.1 Connect negative terminal to the front ground point.
2. 5.2 Open the safety flap in the left footwell.
3. 5.3 Connect positive terminal to the jump-start terminal on the fuse carrier.
  To do this, pull out the jump-start terminal on the fuse carrier until the contact surfaces are free.
Pump out fuel using the Drain fuel tank function on the PIWIS Tester .
1. 6.1 PIWIS Tester must be connected to the fuse carrier in the front left footwell.
2. 6.2 Select the Drain tank function by selecting individual control unit search DME and the Drive links/checks menu item.
3. 6.3 Press F8 (Start) to activate the fuel pump.
4. 6.4 Once you have pumped out the required amount of fuel, press F8 (Stop) to end the process.
5. 6.5 Pull off plug-in coupling on the fuel tank flange.
Switch off the PIWIS Tester and disconnect connecting line.
1. 7.1 Disconnect battery charger.
