1	Hexagon nut, M14 x 1.5 (always replace following removal)
2	Support bearing
3	Sliding bearing
4	Protective plate
5	Tolerance compensation shim (installation depends on the coil spring tolerance group, see information in "Assembling front spring strut")
6	Upper spring plate
7	Bellows
8	Rubber stop (vehicles with standard chassis)
9	Rubber stop/vehicles with sports chassis -10 mm)
10	Coil spring (vehicles with standard chassis)
11	Coil spring (vehicles with sports chassis -10 mm)
12	Stop cap (must be replaced)
13	Actuator for front axle lift (vehicles with front axle lift system)
14	Low e spring plate (vehicles without front axle lift system)
15	Concave washer (vehicles without front axle lift system)
16	Vibration damper

Information

Recommendation for workshops replacing shock absorbers/spring dampers:

Dampers can be replaced separately up to a mileage of 30, 000 km or 3 years.
If the mileage is > 30, 000 km or the components are more than 3 years old, we recommend replacing them in pairs.

If the coil spring is replaced: Always replace coil springs in pairs only!

Clamp the spring strut in > VAS 6908 - stationary spring tensioning device in such a way that the mounting plates of the spring tensioning device are positioned on the spring strut supporting mount. > Front spring strut in spring tensioning device

WARNING:
Preloaded or pressurized components
- Risk of squashing or bruising
  - Do not reach into the danger area.
  - Relieve tension on components before starting work.
  - Secure components to prevent them from loosening suddenly.
Pre-tension the spring strut until the tension on the piston rod is relieved.
Loosen hex nut -1- using a commercially available open socket-spanner insert (a/f 21 mm), for example Hazet, number 2593.
Counter at the hexagon nut -2- on the piston rod.

Front spring strut
1. 3.1 Screw off hexagon nut.
Relieve tension on the spring strut; there must be no tension on the coil spring.
Remove all components -1 to 14- from the piston rod.1

Only for vehicles with front axle lift system: Remove actuator from the vibration damper.

6.1 Carefully remove stop cap -1- using a screwdriver.

The stop cap must be replaced.
