Installing Control Arm

  1. Install control arm -1-  .

    Mounting for control arm

    1. 1.1  Screw in screw -3-  as far as it will go (do not tighten!).
    2. 1.2  Screw in threaded joint -2-  as far as it will go (do not tighten!).
  2. Tighten threaded joints in zero position.
    WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly 
    • Risk of crushing 
    • Risk of damage to components 
      • Wear personal protective gear.
      • Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

    Information 

    Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.

    1. 2.1  Lift the wheel bearing housing as far as required using lifting equipment (e.g. > VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack  ) until the lower trailing arm is horizontal. > Zero position

      Zero position

    2. 2.2  Tighten screw -3-  . > Initial tightening 70 Nm (52 ftlb.)  > Final tightening + 180° 
    3. 2.3  Tighten threaded connection -2-  . > Tightening torque 160 Nm (118 ftlb.)

  3. Install cover on lower trailing arm -1-  .

    1. 3.1  Tighten screws -2-  . > Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
