Subsequent Work: Notes

Information 

  1. Fit rear wheels.

    440519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING WHEEL - on "Installing"

  2. Secure drive shafts -1-  on the transmission flange using new screws -2-  . Counter at the rear wheels.

    > Initial tightening 40 Nm (29.5 ftlb.)  > Final tightening torque angle + 110°

    Mounting for drive shaft on transmission flange

  3. Connect cable plugs -1 and 3-  for oxygen sensors downstream of catalytic converter and route and secure cables.

    Clip in oxygen sensor cables at retaining clips -2 and 4-  .

    Connect cable plugs -1 and 3-  for oxygen sensor.

  4. Secure differential pressure sensor -1-  at the left and right in the engine compartment.

    Fit differential pressure sensor at the holders and clip it in -Arrows-  .

    Connect cable plug -2-  .

  5. Route and secure control unit -1-  and exhaust temperature sensor lines in the engine compartment.

    Secure cables -3-  in the holders -4-  .

    Release and disconnect cable plug -2-  .

    Clip in exhaust temperature sensor control unit -1-  at the holder.

  6. Connect engine wire harness at the engine control unit (DME) -1-  .

    Connect and lock the three front cable plugs -2-  on the engine control unit.

    The cable plugs are colour-coded and their position on the control unit is indicated by colored dots.

  7. Install cover -2-  on engine control unit.

    Fit and tighten nuts -1-  .

    > Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)

  8. Insert cable plug for engine wire harness -1-  in the engine compartment at the right and check secure positioning.

  9. Connect air-conditioning lines -1 and 2-  with new screws and seals in the engine compartment.

    Refer to Removing and installing air-conditioning compressor - condenser refrigerant line (section from air-conditioning compressor to engine compartment connection point) - on "Installing" in the appropriate service information. 

    Tighten screws -3 and 4-  , countering with > 9822 - assembly tool-Arrows-  .

    > Tightening torque 14 Nm (10.3 ftlb.)  → >

  10. Fill up coolant.

    193817 DRAINING AND FILLING COOLANT - on "Filling"

    Check all connections on the cooling system that were opened during removal for leaks.

  11. Install rear spoiler.

    Refer to WM, 66581900 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR SPOILER

  12. Install rear apron.

    Refer to WM, 635519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR APRON

  13. Install charge air cooler.

  14. Fit engine-compartment blower.

    198119 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ENGINE-COMPARTMENT BLOWER - on "Installing"

    Connect central connector.

  15. Add refrigerant for air conditioning system.

    Refer to WM, 870317 DRAINING AND FILLING REFRIGERANT R134A .

    Refer to WM, 870317 DRAINING AND FILLING REFRIGERANT R1234YF .

  16. Fit all covers.
  17. On Cabriolet vehicles:  Install support plate.

    421419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING SUPPORT PLATE - on "Installing"

  18. Install cover for underbody.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

  19. Secure battery ground strap.

    Refer to WM, 978509 LOOSENING AND SECURING GROUND STRAP FOR BATTERY

  20. Bleed the cooling system according to specifications using the PIWIS Tester.

  21. Check engine-oil level and top up with new engine oil if necessary.

  22. Remove protective covers.
  23. Perform suspension alignment.
