Removing Reinforcement

Information

• The illustrations for the procedure show only one side of the vehicle.
• All steps must also be completed on the opposite side of the vehicle.
• These must be carried out as a mirror image of the steps shown.

1. Unscrew self-tapping screws -1-

2. Remove punch rivets.

   1. 2.1  Remove punch rivets -LHD vehicle-  using > VAS 852 001 - dent removal unit  and > VAS 6790 - compact booster  .
   2. 2.2  Drill out punch rivets -RHD vehicle-  .
3. Drill through marked punch rivets from the underside at the centre using a > Diameter 2.0 mm  for position determination.

4. Expose punch rivets on the upper side -1-  using a 10-mm > P90023 - cutter -2-  and > V.A.G 1684 - pneumatic ratchet screw driver-3-  at the drilled positions -4-  until the punch rivet head is visible. Make sure to drill through only one plate thickness.

5. Drill out exposed punch rivets from below.

6. Heat bonding areas using > V.A.G 1416 - hot-air blower.

7. Remove outer reinforcement.
8. Remove punch rivets using > VAS 852 001 - body dent removal system, aluminium  and > VAS 6790 - compact booster  .

9. Heat bonding areas using > V.A.G 1416 - hot-air blower  .

10. Remove inner reinforcement.
