Removing Side Member Reinforcement (Cabriolet)
Information
Carefully remove components of the A-pillar reinforcement.
Removed components can be re-used during installation if necessary.
- Drill out spotwelds -RHP vehicle -.
Spotwelds
- Remove punch rivets -LHP vehicle -
using > VAS 852 001 - dent removal unit
and > VAS 6790 - compact booster.

Punch rivets
- Heat bonding areas using > V.A.G 1416 - hot-air blower.
Bonding areas
- Remove closing element.
- Mark and make cut on A-pillar reinforcement.
> Distance 130 mm
Cut
- Unscrew self-tapping screws -1-

Self-tapping screws
- Drill out spotwelds.
Spotwelds
- Heat bonding areas using > V.A.G 1416 - hot-air blower
.
Bonding areas
- Remove A-pillar reinforcement (lower section).
- Unscrew self-tapping screws -1-
.
Self-tapping screws
- Remove punch rivets using > VAS 852 001 - dent removal unit
and > VAS 6790 - compact booster
.

Punch rivets
- Mark and make cut on B-pillar -LHP vehicle -.
> Distance 35 mm
Cut
- Unscrew self-tapping screws -1-
.
Self-tapping screws
- Unscrew self-tapping screws -1-
.
Self-tapping screws
- Unscrew self-tapping screws -1-
.
Self-tapping screws
- Cut off self-tapping screws -2-
using a chisel.
Self-tapping screws
- Use a magnet to remove self-tapping screw from the side member (Cabriolet).
- Remove punch rivets using > VAS 852 001 - dent removal unit
and > VAS 6790 - compact booster

Punch rivets
- Heat bonding areas using > V.A.G 1416 - hot-air blower

Adhesive areas (before rough cuts)
- Remove chamber profiles in the marked area with rough cuts to expose adhesive areas.
Rough cuts (shown on the Coupe)
- Heat bonding areas using > V.A.G 1416 - hot-air blower
.
Adhesive areas (after rough cuts, shown on the Coupe)
- Knock out self-tapping screws -1-
in the area below the B-pillar.
Self-tapping screws
- Remove side member reinforcement.
- Remove the remaining pieces of self-tapping screw from the interior of the side member.
