Removing Rear Cross Member

Information 

Some of the repair illustrations show only one side of the vehicle. Naturally, some steps also have to be performed on the opposite side of the v ehicle as well. These must be carried out as a mirror image of the steps shown.

1. Loosen rear cross member.
   1. 1.1  Roughly cut out rear cross member -arrows-  .

      Information 

      Drill out spotwelds A  through two plate thicknesses.

   2. 1.2  Drill out spotwelds in area -A-  .

      Information 

      Loosen connection points on one side only. Do not damage the sheet-metal panel underneath.

   3. 1.3  Drill out spotwelds.

      Rear cross member

2. Detach remaining pieces of upper part of rear cross member.
   1. 2.1  Heat the marked bonding areas using > V.A.G 1416 - hot-air blower  and remove remaining pieces of upper part of rear cross member -1-  .

3. Detach remaining pieces of lower part of rear cross member.
