Removing Roof

CAUTION: Pointed or sharp objects

The cutting thread must be placed on the outside around the seal holder

  1. Unscrew nuts -1-  .

  2. Cut through guide pin -1-  using > V.A.G 1561B - electric cutter  and > Length 25 mm  .

  3. Cut through inner adhesive bead -1  - using > V.A.G 1561A - electric cutter  and > Length 25 mm  .

  4. Cut through front adhesive bead -1-  on the roof using > VAS 861 001A - Window removal set  .

    1. 4.1  Cutting cord > Length 3.5 m  must be unwound from the reel. Then cut it off.

      Information 

      • Protect paint area of the side panel using protective film from the tool set while piercing/cutting.
      • Press evenly without using too much force.
      • Get another person to monitor the process from outside.
      • If the scratch awl can be seen at the outside, stop immediately and re-position the awl using less force.
    2. 4.2  Pierce front adhesive bead -2-  at the right.

      1. 4.2.1  Insert scratch awl -1-  past the bracket and threaded bolt -3-  from inside the vehicle to the outside.
    3. 4.3  Pull cutting cord into the passenger compartment.
    4. 4.4  Guide cutting cord -1-  along under the windscreen sealing -2-  (-Arrows-  ).

    5. 4.5  Pull cutting cord -1-  at the front left into the passenger compartment.

      Information

      1. 4.5.1  Guide the scratch awl -3-  sideways at a sharp angle from the inside out.
      2. 4.5.2  Guide cutting cord -1-  along under the plastic bracket -2-  .
      3. 4.5.3  Pull cutting cord -1-  with scratch awl -3-  into the passenger compartment -arrow-  .
    6. 4.6  Pull cutting cord at the front left -1-  as far as the centre into the passenger compartment -arrow-  .

    7. 4.7  Knot hook -1-  on the cutting cord in the passenger compartment -2-  and hook the hook -1-  into the centring bore -3-  .

    8. 4.8  Guide loose end of the cutting cord -1-  out of the passenger compartment -arrow-  .

      Information

      1. 4.8.1  Guide loose end of the cutting cord -1-  at the front left out of the passenger compartment using the scratch awl -2-  .
      2. 4.8.2  Guide cutting cord -1-  along under the plastic bracket -3-  .
    9. 4.9  Loosen roof at the front.

      1. 4.9.1  Position suction cup on the windscreen.
      2. 4.9.2  Feed cutting cord into the spooling device.
      3. 4.9.3  Cut through front adhesive bead
  5. Cut through rear adhesive bead on the roof using > VAS 861 001A - Window removal set  .

    1. 5.1  Cutting cord > Length 3.5 m  must be unwound from the reel. Then cut it off.

    2. 5.2  Pierce rear adhesive bead at the left -2-  .

      1. 5.2.1  Insert scratch awl -1-  past the bracket -3-  and threaded bolt from inside the vehicle to the outside.
    3. 5.3  Pull cutting cord into the passenger compartment.
    4. 5.4  Guide cutting cord -1-  along under the windscreen sealing -2-  (-Arrows-  ).

    5. 5.5  Pull cutting cord -1-  at the rear right into the passenger compartment.

      2. 5.5.2  Guide cutting cord -1-  along under the plastic bracket -2-  .
      3. 5.5.3  Pull cutting cord -1-  with scratch awl -3-  into the passenger compartment.
    6. 5.6  Pull cutting cord -1-  at the rear right as far as the centre into the passenger compartment -arrow-  .

    7. 5.7  Knot hook -1-  on the cutting cord -2-  in the passenger compartment and hook the hook -1-  into the bore -3-  .

      2. 5.8.2  Guide cutting cord -1-  along under the plastic bracket -3-  .
    9. 5.9  Detach roof at the rear.
      1. 5.9.1  Position suction cup -1-  on the rear window.
      2. 5.9.2  Feed cutting cord into the spooling device.
      3. 5.9.3  Cut through rear adhesive bead -2-  .

  6. Remove the roof.
