Adjusting Rear Lid

Installation position

Information 

• Adjust gap dimensions on lid and accessories in accordance with the gap specifications. 
• Given a clearance in the opening that is too great or too small, the accessories must be centred with respect to the body. 
• Ensure that the gaps do not run in a wedge-shaped fashion or do not narrow at local points. 
• The given values are guidelines, which should be observed as far as possible. 
• The guidelines apply to repair work and assembly work. 
• Use star gauges to check the gap dimensions. VAS 6937 - Adjusting gauge 

Information 

• The side adjusting elements on the rear lid must be adjusted so that there is a slight preload when the rear lid is closed completely. 
• The preload must be the same on the left and right. 

Information 

The setting can be changed by turning the adjusting elements.

1. Check gap dimension of rear lid.

2. Disengage rear pneumatic spring at the lid side.
3. Adjust position of rear lid.
   1. 3.1  Loosen screws -1-  on rear lid -2-  and then tighten again hand-tight.

   2. 3.2  Adjust the contours with respect to the side panel and rear spoiler by moving -arrow-  the rear lid -1-  .

   3. 3.3  Tighten screws to > Tightening torque 9 (6.5 ft.lb) Nm  .
4. Adjust height of rear lid.
   1. 4.1  Loosen screws -1-  on the hinge -2-  and then tighten again hand-tight.

   2. 4.2  Close the lid and adjust the height.
   3. 4.3  Tighten screws to > Tightening torque 9 (6.5 ft.lb) Nm  .
5. Screw out adjusting elements for the rear lid -1-  until it makes contact with the cross member/side panel.

6. Engage rear pneumatic springs at the lid.
