Replacing Rear-End Electronics Control Unit

NOTE: NOTIFICATION 
Voltage drop 
  • Irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming 

    → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

    → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

    → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

All remote controls (keys) are required for teaching a DME, rear-end electronic (rear BCM), electronic steering lock (ELV) control unit for example, or for teaching remote controls (keys).

Remote controls (keys) that are not taught during this teaching procedure will no longer be recognized by the vehicle.

Information 

The instructions in the Tester  take precedence, since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear in the Tester  .

  1. In the display and operator control unit  , call up the menu Car, Control, Vehicle  .

    Read out customer-specific settings in the Locking  menu and write them down.

    Since different customer-specific settings can be stored on the individual driver's keys, the customer-specific settings of all driver's keys must be read out.

  2. Switch off the ignition.
  3. Remove old rear-end electronics control unit and install new rear-end electronics control unit.

  4. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  5. Place original remote control (hand-held transmitter) in emergency start tray.

  6. Select the vehicle type if necessary.
  7. Select the Rear-end electronics  control unit in the overview  . Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  8. Select Coding/programming  .
  9. Select Automatic coding  . Press F12 to continue.
    1. 9.1  The Tester displays the message: Coding completed successfully.
  10. Go back to the overview.
  11. In the overview  , start the Additional menu  by pressing F7.
  12. Select Engine immobiliser commissioning  . Press F12 to continue.
    1. 12.1  Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.
    2. 12.2  Teach engine immobiliser according to menu guidance.
    3. 12.3  The Tester displays the message: Engine immobiliser taught.
  13. Select Commission component protection  . Press F12 to continue.
    1. 13.1  Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.
    2. 13.2  Teach component protection according to menu guidance.
    3. 13.3  The Tester displays the message: Component protection taught.
  14. Go back to the overview.
  15. Select the Rear-end electronics  control unit in the overview  . Press F12 to continue.
  16. Select Maintenance/repairs  .
  17. Select General  . Press F12 to continue.
  18. Select Teach: Activate central locking system  . Press F12 to continue.
    1. 18.1  Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.
    2. 18.2  Activate central locking according to menu guidance.
    3. 18.3  The Tester displays the message: Central locking system activated.
  19. Calibrate combination sensor.
    1. 19.1  Select the Airbag  control unit in the overview  . Press F12 to continue.
    2. 19.2  Select Maintenance/repairs  .
    3. 19.3  Select Calibrate combination sensor  . Press F12 to continue.
    4. 19.4  Read and follow the warnings and instructions on the Tester.
  20. Read out the fault memory  , correct faults that are stored if necessary and clear the fault memory.
  21. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
  22. Function test: Lock, open and start the vehicle using all remote controls.
  23. In the display and operator control unit  , call up the menu Car, Control, Vehicle  .

    Select tie customer-specific settings you read out earlier in the Locking  menu and reset them for the different driver's keys.
