Replacing Control Unit For Steering Wheel Electronics

NOTE: Voltage drop
  • Irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding 

    → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

    → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

    → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

The airbag contact unit is integrated in the steering wheel electronics control unit and cannot be replaced separately.

The instructions in the Tester  take precedence, since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear in the Tester  .

  1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  2. Place original remote control (hand-held transmitter) in emergency start tray.

  3. Select the vehicle type if required.
  4. In the overview  , press F7 to switch to the Additional menu  . The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  5. Function enable  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
    1. 5.1 Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.
    2. 5.2 Display enabled functions  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
    3. 5.3 Enable functions in accordance with menu guidance.
    4. 5.4 The Tester displays the message: Restore successful.
  6. Go back to the overview.
  7. Read out the fault memory  , correct faults that are stored if necessary and clear the fault memory.
  8. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
