Replacing Central Computer

NOTE: Voltage drop
  • Irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming 

    → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

    → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

    → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

China and Korea:  If a central computer is replaced, the navigation database must be re-installed.

Information 

If a central computer is replaced, the data stored in the vehicle will be lost. Always inform the customer that the logbook data must be saved beforehand and backed up on an external data storage medium.

  1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  2. Place original remote control (hand-held transmitter) in emergency start tray.

  3. Select the vehicle type if necessary.
  4. Select the PCM  control unit in the overview  . Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  5. Select Coding/programming  .
  6. Select Automatic coding  . Press F12 to continue.
    1. 6.1 The Tester displays the message: Coding was completed successfully.
  7. Switch back to the Overview  menu.
  8. In the overview  , press F7 to switch to the Additional menu  .
  9. Select Component protection start-up  .
    1. 9.1 Follow instructions and procedure.
    2. 9.2 Teach component protection according to menu guidance.
    3. 9.3 The Tester displays the message: Component protection taught.
  10. Select Function enable  . Press F12 to continue.
    1. 10.1 Select Display enabled functions  . Press F12 to continue.
    2. 10.2 The enabled functions are displayed. Follow the instruction on the Tester: Carry out restore process  and press F8.
    3. 10.3 Select Restore enabled functions  . Press F12 to continue.
    4. 10.4 Enable functions according to menu guidance.
    5. 10.5 The Tester displays the message: Restore process completed successfully
  11. Switch back to the Overview  menu.
  12. Teach combination sensor.
    1. 12.1 Select the Airbag  control unit in the overview  . Press F12 to continue.
    2. 12.2 Select Maintenance/repairs  .
    3. 12.3 Select Calibrate combination sensor  . Press F12 to continue.
    4. 12.4 Read and follow the warnings and instructions on the Tester.
  13. Read out all fault memories  , work through faults that are stored if necessary and clear the fault memories.
  14. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
  15. Perform function test on central computer.
