Replacing Instrument Cluster
- Irreparable damage to control unit
- Damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Control unit programming/coding is aborted
- Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding
- Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.
- Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.
- Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A to the vehicle battery.

The instructions in the Tester take precedence, since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear in the Tester .
- Document the total mileage and fuel level.
- Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
- Place original remote control (hand-held transmitter) in emergency start tray.

- Select the vehicle type if necessary.
- Select the Instrument cluster control unit in the overview . Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
- Select Maintenance/repairs

For vehicles without all-wheel drive, continue with Step 7
For vehicles with all-wheel drive, continue with Step 8
- Select Save tank sensor calibration values . Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
- Select Control unit replacement
. Press F12 to continue.
- 8.1 Select Read data . Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
- 8.2 The Tester displays the message: Data was read out. Press F12 to continue.
- Switch off the ignition.
- Remove old instrument cluster and install new instrument cluster.
- Switch on the ignition. Change to the Write data
menu (procedure described above), press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start. The data that was read out is loaded.

- In the overview
, press F7 to switch to the Additional menu

- Select Commission component protection

- 13.3 The Tester displays the message: Component protection taught.
- Select Maintenance of vehicle data
. Press F12 to continue.
- 14.1 Check vehicle data and make changes if necessary.
The required vehicle data can be read out of the PIWIS vehicle information system.

- Select the Instrument cluster control unit in the overview . Press F12 to continue.
- Select Coding/programming .
- Select Automatic coding
. Press F12 to continue.
- 18.1 The Tester displays the message: Coding was completed successfully.
- Select Maintenance/repairs

For vehicles with all-wheel drive, continue with Step 21
- Select Restore tank sensor calibration values
. Press F12 to continue.
- 20.1 Read the information and warnings on the Tester. Press F12 to continue and then F8 to start.
- 20.2 The fuel-level sensor values are restored. Press F12 to continue.
Information
The total mileage can only be written once in the instrument cluster. It cannot be changed even if the counter is below 1, 000 km (620 mls). An incorrect total mileage cannot be corrected. Make sure that the total mileage is entered correctly.
- Select Set total mileage

- 21.1 Read and follow the warnings displayed on the Tester. Press F12 to continue.
- 21.2 Select the total mileage. Enter the value that was read out in Step 1 and press F8 to write it. Press F12 to continue.
- Select Write service interval

- 22.1 Read and follow the warnings displayed on the Tester. Press F12 to continue.
- 22.2 Follow the instructions on the Tester. Look up and enter the servicing values from the customer service booklet. Press F12 to continue.
- Switch back to the Overview menu.
- In the overview , press F7 to switch to the Additional menu .
- Select Function enable
. Press F12 to continue.
- 25.1 Select Display enabled functions . Press F12 to continue.
- 25.2 The enabled functions are displayed. Follow the instructions on the Tester: Carry out restore process and press F8.
- 25.3 Select Restore enabled functions . Press F12 to continue.
- 25.4 Enable functions according to menu guidance.
- 25.5 The Tester displays the message: Restore process completed successfully
- Switch back to the Overview menu.
- Teach combination sensor.
- 27.1 Select the Airbag control unit in the overview . Press F12 to continue.
- 27.2 Select Maintenance/repairs .
- 27.3 Select Calibrate combination sensor . Press F12 to continue.
- 27.4 Read and follow the warnings and instructions on the Tester.
- Read out the fault memory , correct faults that are stored if necessary and clear the fault memory.
- Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
