Replacing PDK Transmission Control Unit

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
WARNING: The vehicle can move automatically while you are calibrating the transmission control unit (PDK).
  • The raised vehicle can fall from the lifting platform.
  • Danger of crushing.
  • Risk of damage to or from objects.
    • forward During calibration, the brake pedal must be blocked using a commercially available brake pedal lock.
    • forward The parking brake must be engaged.
    • forward The vehicle must not be raised and must be standing on its wheels.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester. 

Information 

When the PDK control unit is programmed, the instrument cluster is also programmed and coded automatically in addition to the DME control unit.

  1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  2. Select the Transmission electronics (PDK)  control unit in the overview.  Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  3. Coding/programming  must be selected.
  4. Automatic programming  must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
    1. 4.1 The Tester displays the message: Programming was completed successfully.
  5. Automatic coding  must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
    1. 5.1 The Tester displays the message: Coding was completed successfully.
  6. Read out the fault memory  and erase it if necessary.
  7. Switch off ignition, wait 2 seconds and then switch ignition back on again.
  8. Select the required Transmission electronics (PDK)  control unit in the overview. 
  9. Maintenance/repairs  must now be selected.
  10. Select Calibration (complete process).  Press F12 to continue.
  11. Select the required calibration.  Press F12 to continue.
    1. 11.1 Observe warnings, test prerequisites and instructions on the Tester. 
    2. 11.2 Perform calibration according to menu guidance.
    3. 11.3 The Tester displays the message: Calibration completed successfully.
  12. Read out the fault memory,  correct faults that are stored if necessary and clear the fault memory.
  13. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
