Preliminary Work

- Remove engine with transmission.
- Vehicles with sports exhaust system:
Pull off and unclip vacuum line -1-
on exhaust flap control box -2-
for the sports exhaust system -arrow-
.
- Remove exhaust system -1-
.
> 260119 REMOVING AND INSTALLING EXHAUST SYSTEM .
Get another person to help!
- Disconnect coolant hoses -1 and 2-
for transmission cooling.
- 4.1 Loosen and disconnect plug-in coupling -3- on the left heat exchanger.
- 4.2 Pull off spring clamps on the plug connections -Arrows- and disconnect coolant hoses.
- 4.3 Check O-rings and replace them if necessary.
- Unclip and pull off vacuum line for transmission control valve.
- Secure drive shafts -1-
with tie-wraps -2-
on the rear-axle carrier side section -Arrow-
.
- 6.1 Place a protective base -3- between the drive shafts and chassis components!
- Loosen drive shafts on the transmission.
- 7.1 Counter at the wheel hub nut -Arrow- using tool -1- .
- Unclip central connector -1-
on transmission mount bracket.
- Loosen transmission mount -1-
on the rear-axle carrier side section.
- 9.1 Disconnect vacuum line -2- .
- 9.2 Unscrew M8 screws -3- on the transmission mounts.
- Fit special tool > VAS 6932 - transport device-1-
on the engine mounts.
- 10.1 Guide > VAS 501 015 - round sling-2- through the transport devices.
- Guide one tensioning strap -1-
over the > 3033 - lifting tackle
and workshop crane spring hook -2-
.
- Lift engine with transmission from the rear axle using > VAS 6100 - workshop crane-1-
and > 3033 - lifting tackle-4-
.
Get another person to help with this step.
- 12.1 Engage > VAS 501 015 - round sling-2- in the spring hooks of the lifting tackle at the left and right.
- 12.2 Secure the transmission on the lifting tackle with > 9454 - strapping belt-3- .
- 12.3 Lift engine with transmission off the rear-axle module.
- Workshop crane VAS 6100
- Round sling VAS 5010 015
- Tensioning strap/strapping belt 9454
- Lifting tackle 3033
- Master Gear unit elevating platform VAS 6832
- Rear-axle module
- Lift rear-axle module off the > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform
and set it down on a wooden pallet.
Get another person to help with this step.
- Position engine with transmission on the unit elevating platform.
Get another person to help with this step.
- 14.1 Support transmission using > 9769/1 - support-1- and wooden block (as a base) -2- .
- Secure the engine with a > 9454 - strapping belt-2- on the unit elevating platform -1- .
