Adjusting Front-Axle Toe

To do this, perform the following steps:

1. 1.1  Move steering gear to center position.
2. 1.2  Turn wheels to straight-ahead position.
3. 1.3  Then, adjust the front wheel alignment if necessary until the center position marking -1-  is aligned with the arrow.

   If the front underbody panelling is fitted, the position of the center position marking can be checked using a mirror.

4. 1.4  Re-position the steering wheel if necessary. When re-positioning the steering wheel, try to find the best position.

For fast and reliable steering wheel alignment in center position, use a -steering wheel balance-  (with integrated angle measurement box)

1. 3.1  Loosen lock nut -2-  . To do this, counter at the tie-rod ball -3-  using a suitable open-ended wrench.

   Then, with the steering wheel in center position, adjust the toe at the hexagon -1-  on the tie rod(s) using a suitable open-ended wrench.

   Then tighten the lock nut (on the relevant tie rod) to > Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 ftlb.)

2. 3.2  To loosen and tighten the lock nut, use > 9730 - socket-wrench insert -A-  together with a torque wrench -B-  .

   The tightening torque for the lock nut of 50 Nm (37 ftlb.), when using socket-wrench insert 9730 -A-  , corresponds to a value of approx. 32.5 Nm (24 ftlb.) on the torque wrench.
