Preliminary Work

  1. Set up a warning sign No naked flames, fire, open ignition sources or smoking  in a clearly visible position in the work area or on the vehicle > Example of a warning sign  .

  2. Relieve fuel pressure in the system.
    1. 2.1 Remove cover on the fuse carrier in the passenger compartment at the front left.
    2. 2.2 In row B  -1  -, pull out the (20-amp) fuse -2  - for the fuel pump.
    3. 2.3 Start the engine, wait until it cuts out and then re-insert the fuse.

  3. Remove battery console.

    > 508419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING BATTERY CONSOLE

  4. Remove rear underbody cover.

    > WM, 519419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COVER FOR REAR UNDERBODY

  5. Remove center underbody cover.

    > WM, 519319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COVER FOR CENTRE UNDERBODY

  6. Remove front underbody cover.

    > WM, 519219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COVER FOR FRONT UNDERBODY

    Information 

    The rear strut must not be removed.

  7. Remove brace plates -3 and 5-  .
    1. 7.1 Unscrew fastening screws -4  - on the center brace plate -3  -.

      Information 

      The holder for the plug connections must not be removed.

    2. 7.2 Unclip center brace plate -3  - from holder for the plug connections.
    3. 7.3 Unscrew and remove fastening screws -6  - on the front brace plate -5  -.
    4. 7.4 Unclip front brace plate -5  - from the coolant pipes.

  8. Remove sub-frame -1  - for front-axle carrier.
    1. 8.1 Unscrew fastening screws -3  - on the coolant pipes on sub-frame -1  - for front-axle carrier.
    2. 8.2 Loosen fastening screws -2  - and lower sub-frame -1  - for front-axle carrier as far as required so that the electric plug connection on the control unit for Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPM) is accessible.
    3. 8.3 Release and disconnect electric plug connection on control unit for Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPM).
    4. 8.4 Unscrew fastening screws -2  - and remove sub-frame -1  - for front-axle carrier with control unit for Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPM) and retaining straps for the fuel tank.
