Removing Fuel-Level Sensor

WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials 
  • Danger of fire or explosion 
    • → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
    • → Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.
    • → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.
    • → Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.
    • → Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.

Information 

Mark the installation position with a touch-up stick before removing the fuel level sender.

Information 

Replace flange gasket on the fuel tank.

  1. Place a warning sign in a clearly visible position in the work area or on the vehicle.

  2. Disconnect vacuum line for the brake booster.
    1. 2.1 Release vacuum line -arrows A  - and pull it off the coupling -arrow B  -.
    2. 2.2 Unclip vacuum line -arrow C-  .

  3. Only for active carbon filters without leakage diagnosis unit  : Unclip vacuum line on carbon canister - - (-arrow  -).

  4. Unscrew screws - - and remove mounting for battery console.

  5. Release and disconnect electric plug connections -1 and 2-  at the fuel level sender.

    Information 

    Watch out for emerging fuel when disconnecting fuel lines. Place a clean cloth on the connection point, then loosen the connection.

  6. Release -arrows A  - and pull off -arrow B  - vent line.

  7. Release and pull off the fuel line - -.

  8. Screw off locking ring - - on the sender.
    1. 8.1 Mark installation position of sender and locking ring - -.
    2. 8.2 > 9731/1 - Lug wrench-2  - must be inserted into the grooves -arrows A  -.
    3. 8.3 Release locking ring - - by turning it anti-clockwise -arrow B  - and remove it.
      IMPORTANT: High loosening force for locking lugs on the locking ring.

  9. Remove fuel level sender.
    1. 9.1 Lift the sender up slightly.
    2. 9.2 Release both plug connections - - for the fuel lines and disconnect them.

    3. 9.3 Release and disconnect electric plug connection - -.

    4. 9.4 Carefully remove fuel level sender - - by moving it past the reinforcement strut - - and out of the fuel tank.
